Recap of my trip to Kingston, Jamaica

Last week I spent a few days on a girls' trip to Kingston, Jamaica for Jamaica Carnival 2016. I haven't visited my island home since 2010 so the trip was long overdue. I was excited to see members of my family who I haven't see in a long time and to visit some of my favorite places in Kingston. Below is a recap of my trip.

Shortly after landing, we headed to the famous Devon House for ice-cream. Devon House is one of Jamaica's Heritage Sites and along with its rich history, it's world famous for its ice-cream (it's on the National Geographic's list of the top 10 places to eat ice-cream). As expected I truly enjoyed my delectable grape nut ice cream cone.

We know we couldn't visit Jamaica without a trip to the beach so the next day we packed our beach bags and drove to Hellshire Beach. Hellshire is approximately a 45 minute drive away from where we stayed in New Kingston. Hellshire is a local favorite, and many Jamaicans frequent Hellshire for relaxing  beach day trips and the tasty fish dishes that you can purchase from local restaurants along the shore. I recommend Bev and Sons. I strongly believe Hellshire offers THE BEST Fried fish on the island, I haven't tasted better yet. Whenever I visit Hellshire I always order fried fish and festival (a Caribbean dumpling).

Since we came for carnival we spent the rest of our trip reveling in pre-carnival activities. One such event was the Sunrise Breakfast Party, which took place the morning before carnival. This early morning event featured buffet style Caribbean breakfast and unlimited top shelf drinks of your choice. We danced to live performances from a variety of Soca artists and a selection of great Soca and Reggae music spun by popular Caribbean DJs. During the event, I ran into one of my favorite fashion designers, Carly Cushnie, she was really sweet and I told her I absolutely love her designs.

The next day we joined the Jamaica Carnival 2016 road march to celebrate the rich history of Soca Music in Jamaica and across the Caribbean. See more photos from my trip on my Instagram page. We had a wonderful time!
